Swirl-based inline phase separation is a promising approach in the process industry with potential application in oil and gas separation in petroleum industry. To increase the efficiency of the separation, the process may be controlled. In this direction, the position and the diameter of the gas vortex are two parameters that can be used in the control loop, provided that they can be non-intrusively estimated.
From October-01-2019 till November-30-2019 we are hosting an Early Stage Researcher Muhammad Awais Sattar from the Lodz University of Technology, Poland. Muhammad is part of an ITN project named TOMOCON in which UTFPR is an Associate partner. During his stay at NUEM Muhammad will investigate swirling multiphase flows by means of a direct-imaging capacitive sensor under the supervision of Prof Marco da Silva and Dr Aluisio Wrasse. This work is targeted on extracting flow parameters based on sensor data which in turn may be applied to optimal control strategies of the process.
