New paper from NUEM – Multiphase Flow Research CenterUTFPR: “Effect of Temperature, Pressure, and Type of Gas Injected on the Formation and Decay of Mineral Oil-Based Foams”.

In three-phase gravity separators (oil-water-gas) used in primary petroleum separation process, the presence of foams can be harmful, causing various problems such as liquid carry-over, gas carry-under, decreased capacity and difficulty in level measurement. This work proposes an experimental analysis of the influence of temperature, pressure and types of gases on the formation and decay of foams using a model oil. Simplified models of foam formation and decay by gas injection were proposed based on models already available in the literature.
