New article at Chemical Engineering Science Journal

We invite you all to check out the new article published by NUEM – Multiphase Flow Research Center in the Chemical Engineering Science Journal, entitled “Study of the bubble motion in a centrifugal rotor based on visualization in a rotating frame of reference”. The work discusses about the movement of bubbles in a rotating impeller, a topic that is related to gas-liquid flows in centrifugal pumps with importance in areas such as nuclear reactors and petroleum production. One of the highlights of this study is the evaluation of the drag coefficient acting on bubbles flowing through curved, rotating impeller channels, which was accomplished by the combination of experimental visualization and computational fluid dynamics simulations.

This work is part of an extensive research project conducted by the NUEM group concerning performance degradation of centrifugal pumps and is based on Mr. Higor Silva’s M.Sc. dissertation advised by Prof. Rigoberto Morales. This research is financially supported by PETROBRAS.

The paper is available online at the Chemical Engineering Science webpage at the following link (doi):
