10th International Conference on Gas Hydrates (ICGH10) in Singapore.

Last week, NUEM – Multiphase Flow Research Center showcased its research at the 10th International Conference on Gas Hydrates (ICGH10) in Singapore, presenting four works and Professor Rigoberto Morales was chair in one of the flow assurance sessions.

Stella Cavalli shared her experimental results in Hydrate Slurry Transport in Multiphase Slug Flow Using Hydrate-Like Particles in which experiments were carried out with particles in volumetric concentrations of 5%, 10% and 20%.

Professor Moisés presented two works. The first explores the experimental characterization of hydrate formation in crude oil and high-salinity brines. The second is a study of gas hydrate formation and accumulation in non-emulsified oil/water systems under pseudo-flow conditions.

Lastly, Dr. Carlos Lange Bassani presented a new approach for gas hydrate slurry flow based on a multiscale model for multiphase flow. A multiscale approach is used to explain how the porous structure of gas hydrates and the affinity between the phases affect the particle morphology and their agglomeration. We propose that gas consumption due to hydrate growth happens mostly in the water trapped inside the hydrate structure’s capillaries near the particles’ outer surface. Dr. Carlos Bassani is currently a pos-doc researcher at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg founded by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

These studies underscore our contribution to the ongoing progress in multiphase flow research through development projects with oil and gas companies. We plan to continue our explorations and innovations, hoping to share findings with the scientific community.

We thank the authors for their commitment to the experimental works in multiphase flow research. Furthermore, we want to acknowledge PETROBRAS PETROLEO BRASILEIRO SATotalEnergies, and Equinor for their financial contributions. Their ongoing support and collaboration were essential to the research findings.

A special thanks to scientific partners: Phases to Flow Lab., Chemical and Biological Engineering Department, Colorado School of Mines, USA and Mines Saint-Etienne, Univ Lyon, France.
